The project represents the reality of the Basilicata region, in which the largest European oil field on earth is located underground. However, the general development still presents many areas with a strong rural vocation, economy and life linked to the earth and a modern one that, like the result of a magical artifice, has arisen in the middle of large green spaces.
At the beginning of the oil age, experts were imported from outside to work in the new infrastructure built, this is because there was no intention of educating local people.
In doing so, the involvement of the Lucanian population was reduced to a mere transfer of its authority over the territory with all that this can cause in an environment that lives in the relationship between man-land-work-authority-traditions.
Today the new generation can only adapt since it has no other possibility to manage its life in the club. Despite the offers that the mining industry has created, also giving rise to a substantial induced activity; the wealth generated by this is not yet equally distributed.
Many do not have a role in this economy. The alternative of land, on the one hand, rich in underground resources and on the other impoverished of its natural terrestrial functions (due to pollution, due to territorial expropriation), does not guarantee a fate other than the acceptance of the technological reality imposed from above.
